Plot
One
day in the morning, Katniss Everdeen woke up and she looked at her mother and her younger sister on bed
next to her. Her younger sister’s name was Prim. She had a cat. The cat’s name
was Buttercup. She was from district 12. That day was reaping day. But before
she joined the event. Katniss had to hunt animal which it could be eaten for
her and all of her family members. The event was called The Hunger Games. It
was made by President and people from Capitol. People of the Capitol was so
wealth. However people of district was so poor and dirty. Virtually, each
districts had special thing. Because people from each districts had activity
for living that it was different with another district. For example working as
ferryman, farmer, and so on. The games proposed to memorize the rebellion to
the Capitol who was done by some people from each districts. Unfortunatelly,
the government won. Before this game was held, District 13 was destroyed by
guns, bomb and so on by government. Because they were defeated. The Hunger Games
was game for district in which delegation from each districts had to kill each
other until there was one survivor.
After she said goodbye
to his mother she went to the forest. Frankly the forest was not far from her
home. In the forest, she met Gale. Gale was Katniss’s boyfriend. After hunting,
she went to the Hobs. That was black market to barter her animal which it got
from hunting with bread and so on. Suddenly, she saw a pin. It was Mockingjay
pin. Finally, she was obtained that pin from a nice trader. After that she went
home. In home, her mother had made beautiful dress for her. She and her younger
sister went to the hall in the center of the village. There were many solders
keeping the reaping day. Each dictricts had to give its delegation to be the
tribute to join the games. The tribute was one boy and one girl from each
district. After all of people from District 12 gathered in the hall. The guide was Effie
Tricket. She began putting her hand in the glass ball which it was many paper
that was name in. She announced that the girl who became tribute from District
12 was Prim Everdeen, Katniss’s younger sister. Katniss was surprised. She did not
want her sister to be the tribute. So, she became a volunteer changing her
younger sister position. Afterwards, Effie put her hand again to choose a boy.
She announced Peeta Mellark as the tribute. So, the tributes from District 12
to join The Hunger Games were Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. They joined
games which it was made by a game maker. He was Seneca Crane.
They were brought to
the luxurious train. In there were many kinds of food and drink. They went to
the Capitol. Even though they could eat better food but actually they were
facing death. In the Capitol they met the tributes from different districts.
Katniss was so afraid. Due to she did not have skill like them. Katniss only
could shoot by using bow and narrows. But it was for animal not to kill people.
In that situation, she remembered that she knew Peeta when he threw a bread
next to her near Peeta’s home. Actually, Peeta’s mom had bakery. Suddenly, she
was so surprised because Effie brought strange people to her and Peeta. He
turned out the winner of the 50th Hunger Games from District 12. His
name was Haymith Arbernathy. Then He gave some advice to Katniss and Peeta how
to survive in the games and They also discussed about the sponsors. Finally,
the train arrived at the Capitol. In the Capitol, she was introduced to Cina.
Cina was a rookie stylist to participate in “The Hunger games”. Katniss, Peeta,
and Cina discussed about the outfits for the opening festival. So, Cina decided to light their outfit with
artificial fire. In the morning, Katniss and Peeta trained such as plant
distinguishing, tying knots, making camouflages, and so on. On the last
training day, each tributes would have assessment about their skill with
gamemakers. The last night before “The Hunger Games” passed by very fast. As on
last advice, Haymitch told, “You have to run away as soon as the games starts
then find a source of water”.
All of the tributes
were taken to the Cornucopia. For 60 seconds, they were forced to stay on metal
circle. Katniss saw a bow and arrows but
she could not reach it in time. So, she ran and took an orange backpack. When
she was running away, suddenly a girl tribute from District 2 threw a knife to
her. But Katniss blocked it with her orange backpack. In the late afternoon, the
sounds of cannon announced the death of 11 other tributes. However Katniss and
Peeta were still alive. Katniss attempted finding a water source. Finally, she
found a little pound. Afterwards, she fell asleep. Few hours later she woke up
and the forest was burning. She ran away successfully and she felt exhausted.
So, she attempted searching a tree as a shelter and She climbed that tree and
slept. Suddenly she woke up because she heard the sound of career tributes.
They saw her and they tried to threaten her life, but they faild. However they
set a camp right below the tree waiting for Katniss came down. When Katniss was
thinking the way to save her life from them. Suddenly, Rue from district 11
gave the way to Katniss, She appointed at something above Katniss’s head. It
turned out a wasp nest. Then she cut it down. Soon the wasp nest fell near by
the sleeping tributes. They were so surprised. They attempted to run away but
two of them died by the wasps. In the morning, Katniss shared some rabbit meat
with Rue. Next day they decided to get
rid food supplies for the career tributes. They separated to do each their
duties. When Katniss arrived, she heared that Cato was tabbed Peeta. That made
Katniss so sad. Katniss destroyed all of the food supplies with her bow and
arrows. Afterwards, she went back to meet Rue. But on her way back, she heard
that Rue shouted her name. When she reached where Rue was. She reliazed that
Rue was captured in a net. And someone came with a spear then he pierced to
Rue’s body. Katniss cut the net to save Rue, but it was too late. Before she
died, she asked Katniss to promise that she had to survive till the end and won
“The Hunger Games”. Katniss agreed to keep Rue’s promises. In the afternoon,
Claudius Templesmith’s voice announced that there was a change in “The Hunger
games” rules. Claudius Templesmith was an announcer during the games. He stated
“If two final surviving tributes are
from same district, they can be the winner in the games”. It remained Katniss
to Peeta. The next morning, Katniss looked for Peeta and she finally found him
hiding in the mud by the river. Katniss and Peeta always expressed their fake
love to the audience for getting sponsores. Claudius Templesmith announced that
there would be many items that it needed by tributes at the Cornucopia. When
Katniss arrived at the Cornucopia, many other tributes were waiting in right
time to get the items. While she would get some items, suddenly a gril tribute
from District 2 attacked her. She was Clove. But Katniss was assisted by
Thresh. Thresh was from District 11 it was similar with Rue. He let Katniss to
be free. So, Katniss ran to go back to the shelter giving medicine to Peeta.
One of tributes died because of wild berries. She was Fox-faced girl. She ate
the berries. Actually, the berries were strongly poisonous. In the night,
Katniss, Peeta, and Cato were chasered by hounds of mutations. Finally, they
arrived at the Cornucopia. Unfortunatelly, Cato was slowly getting killed by
the mutations. So, in pity Katniss shot him to end his pain. When she and Peeta
had to be the winner in “The Hunger Games”, suddenly there was announcement
that only one survivor could be the winner. After hearing that, Katniss and
Peeta decided to eat wild berried at the same time. Before they did that,
Claudius Templesmith announced that The Hunger Games had ended.
Katniss
and Peeta rode the train back to District 12. They were the winner of the 74th
Hunger Games.

Characterization :
a) Main Character
1. Katniss Everdeen
Katniss Everdeen is the main protagonist
and the narrator of the Hunger Games. She is brave, responsible, caring,
helping, brainy, cautious, elegant, excellent, graceful, hospitable,
kind-hearted, lucky, lyrical, and quiet.
2. Peeta Mellark
Peeta Mellark is a baker’s son from
District 12. He is very compassionate person and he is good with words. He has
fallen in love with Katniss since age of 5, but he never confesses his feelings
until he is reaped alongside her for 74th Hunger Games. He and Katniss play out a
romance in the arena in order to garner sponsors. He and Katniss became friend
despite the fact that they are forced to use their fake romance. He is handsome
and smart.
b) Supporting Character :
1. Primrose Everdeen
She is Katniss Everdeen’s younger
sister. She is good girl.
2. Haymitch Abernathy
Haymitch Abernathy is the winner of the
50th Hunger Games from District 12. He is also trainer for Katniss
and Peeta. He is cooperative, didactic, discreet, homely, and versed.
3. Seneca Crane
Seneca Crane is the head game maker in
The Hunger Games. He is in charge of running the 72nd, 73rd,
and 74th Hunger Games and ordering obstacles into arena. He is bad
person and draconian.
4. Effie Tricket
Effie Tricket is a guide for District
12. She is animated, cheerful, energetic, fretful, garrulous, and gaudy.
5. Cina
Cina is a rookie stylist to participate
in “The Hunger Games”. He makes a lot of beautiful dress for Katniss and Peeta.
He is charming, earthy, and spiffy.
6. Cato
Cato is the main antagonist in “The
Hunger Games”. He is the male tribute from District 2 and the leader of the
career tributes in the 74th Hunger Games. He is abrasive, cagey, cynical,
gullible, and malicious.
7. Thresh
Thresh is the male tribute from District
11. He is strong and resourceful. He posed a serious threat for the other
tributes participating in “The Hunger Games”, especially Cato.
8. Rue
Rue is the 12-year-old female tribute from
District 11 who is selected to participate in the 74th Hunger Games.
She helps Katniss from the career tributes. She is caring, clever, cute,
familiar, and knowledgeable.
9. Claudius Templesmith
Claudius Templesmith is the announcer
during “The Hunger games”. He is arrogant and stylish.
10. Clove
Clove is female tribute from District 2.
She is cruel, sadistic, envious, and ruthless.
11. Fox-faced
Fox-faced is female tribute from
District 5. She is careless, and coward.
12. Gale Hawthorne
Gale Hawthorne is Katniss’s boyfriend.
He is jealous, nosy, and good looking.

Because she was inspired by programs of TV. One night, she was lying bed, and
she was channel surfing between reality TV programs and actual war coverage. On
one channel, there was a group of young people competing for something, and on
the next, there was a group of young people fighting in an actual war. She was
really tired, and the lines between these stories started to blur in a very
unsettling way. That was the moment when Katniss’s story came to her.

The Effect
After I read this
novel. I can imagine the situation in the novel. I extremely want to be
Katniss. Due to she is willing to be a volunteer changing her younger sister to
join The Hunger Games. If I can find someone who is like Katniss. Of course I
am going to learn about how to be a sincere person. Moreover, she is also brave
and wise. That is why I want to be Katniss in real life. In the novel, I can
see many things about life. It is very important. For instance, learning about
togetherness, learning about kindness, and so on.

Personal Reflections
I choose this novel
because the novel is trilogy (The Hunger
Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay). Moreover, the novel is so
different with another novel. I think this is like video game in playstation
but in the game is human. And the novel implies about improvement technology.
That is so interesting. In my mind, Suzanne Collins as an author has been
successful writing this novel. Due to the story in this novel is very
impressive.
