Si Kancil and the Crocodiles
Once upon a time, in a lush
jungle, lived a mischievous little mouse deer named Si Kancil. He was known for
his cleverness and his ability to outsmart even the most fearsome creatures.
One day, Si Kancil was crossing a river when he encountered a group of hungry
crocodiles blocking his path. The crocodiles, seeing a
delicious meal, grinned wickedly. "Well, well, well," hissed the
biggest crocodile, "looks like we have a tasty snack for lunch!" Si Kancil, however, was not one
to give up easily. He quickly thought of a plan. "Oh, great
crocodiles," he said, bowing politely, "I am the king of the jungle,
and I am on my way to a meeting with all the animals. The king has decreed that
all the animals in the jungle must bring him one of their body parts as a
tribute." The crocodiles, impressed by Si
Kancil's story, asked, "What part of your body will you bring to the
king?" Si Kancil, with a mischievous
glint in his eye, replied, "I will bring him my shadow!" The crocodiles, never having seen
a shadow before, were intrigued. "Your shadow? What does it look
like?" they asked. "Follow me," said Si
Kancil, leading the crocodiles to a nearby riverbank. He then pointed to his
shadow reflected in the water. "That, my friends, is my shadow," he
declared. The crocodiles, eager to obtain
such a unique tribute for their king, jumped into the river to catch Si
Kancil's shadow. Of course, they only caught their own reflections, much to
their frustration. Si Kancil, meanwhile, watched
from a safe distance, laughing at the crocodiles' predicament. He had
outsmarted them once again! Moral of the story: Si Kancil and the Crocodiles is a classic folktale that teaches us the value of wit and resourcefulness. By using his intelligence and quick thinking, Si Kancil was able to escape from a dangerous situation. The story also reminds us that sometimes, the simplest solutions are the most effective. |
